Levitical laws and their meaning today
I continue in my YouVersion Reading Plan in Leviticus the Bible Reader's Tomb
I had to drop my ancient Hebrew text class because of my schedule last year. While I was taking the course, learned that the laws of fidelity and purity for women carried symbolism for Israel as a nation in relationship with God. I knew this but not to the degree I learned from going to the original writings. That is why in the NT, this understanding gives a greater and broader significance to the accounts of women in the NT. The adultery of Israel in the OT and the adultery of the Church with nations and empires in the present age is something to consider, question and think about.
After all, when Christ was crucified the people of God by their leaders’ coercion shouted, ‘we have no King but Caesar.’ Over 300 years later Eusebius the clever politician concocted the story of Jesus appearing to Constantine on The Milvian bridge and saying “in hoc signo vinces.” Translated “in this sign you will conquer (the cross).” Thereafter Rome took over the name of (hi-jacked?) Christianity and mixed it in with all their other religions hence the word Catholic mean “through the whole, universal, world wide and all inclusive.”
Even the Reformation kept the politics of the Holy Roman Empire and alloyed it with their own conquests continuing subjugate the “infidels” as ordered by the Pope in the Papal Bulls and now written about as the Doctrine of Discovery. It continues today no doubt in our politicians wearing crosses around their necks as they advocate for military operations in places across the globe.
